Kotone is run by one person, and every message is read. Write to support@kotone.co, or use one of the links below so your note arrives with the right subject line.
Suggest a recording or a player
If you know a recording that belongs here, or a musician whose playing should be heard, tell us. A link to where it lives helps most. We can only add recordings that are in the public domain, under a Creative Commons licence, or shared with us by the people who own them, so a suggestion may take a while, and some can't be added at all. Every one is looked at.
Musicians and rights holders
If you play traditional music of Japan or China and would like your recordings on Kotone, we'd love to hear from you. The terms are simple:
- Audio only, played unedited.
- Credited exactly as you wish, with a page about you and a link to your own site.
- Not exclusive. Your recordings stay yours, to sell and share anywhere else.
- Anything comes down within a week if you change your mind.
Kotone earns nothing and can't pay, but every recording is presented with notes on the instrument and the piece, for people who sit and listen. See the modern recordings page for how we point listeners to albums they can buy.
If you play on a recording that is already here, or hold rights in it, and would like it credited differently or taken down, write to us and we'll act within a week.

Corrections
Every entry was catalogued by hand, and mistakes happen: a wrong instrument, a date, a name in the wrong script. Where we don't know something we leave it out, so if you can fill a gap, that's welcome too.
