能・謡曲
Nō chant
Nō is the masked dance-drama of Japan's warrior aristocracy, given its classic form by Kan'ami and Zeami around 1400. Its texts are chanted (utai, or yōkyoku when sung on their own), and amateurs have studied and performed utai without the stage for centuries, which is why it was recorded so early.
