The King Chu Doffs His Armour
A classic of the martial (wu) style of pipa music. It tells of the last days of Xiang Yu, the Hegemon-King of Chu, defeated by Liu Bang's Han army at Gaixia around 202 BC: the battle, the songs of Chu heard from the enemy camp, the farewell to his consort Yu. Its companion piece, Ambush from All Sides, tells the same war from the winning side. From Liu Fang's album The Soul of Pipa, Vol. 1 (2001).
