Ten Tunes and Toppling the Banner
Two linked sets of suona tunes, ten from 'Shipai' and four from 'Daoqi', played here as an instrumental suite for suona and percussion. In the luantan opera about Qin Qiong breaking the bronze-banner formation, the same tunes are sung in turn by Qin Qiong and his cousin Luo Cheng. The suona are led by Qiu Huorong, one of Taiwan's great beiguan masters, with the drum master Lai Musong.
