Folk song
Regional work, festival and dance songs from across the Japanese archipelago. In the Ryukyu islands the tradition is carried by the sanshin and a distinct scale. Many min'yō were standardised for stage and radio in the 20th century, but local styles survive at festivals and gatherings.
