Contemporary music for Japanese instruments
New composition for traditional Japanese instruments, which grew rapidly after the 1950s. Composers such as Sawai Tadao and Minoru Miki wrote for koto, shakuhachi and shamisen players. They kept the instruments' techniques and phrasing while borrowing freely in form and harmony.
