Japan / Solo shakuhachi repertoire
Original Searching
A shirabe or chōshi, a short piece for 'searching out' the sound: the first piece a player learns and often the first played in a session, to settle the breath and find the instrument's voice. Many schools have their own; this is the version of Sakai Chikuhō II's school, Riley Lee's teacher. From the album Empty Sky.
